Call for papers
We are pleased to invite submissions for the II International Conference on Academic Literacies in Multilingual Contexts, an international forum for researchers interested in the development of academic and disciplinary literacies in multilingual educational contexts.
The conference aims to advance research on how learners develop the language and literacy practices required for academic success across subjects, with a particular focus on primary and secondary education (approximately 9–16 years old, while not limited to this age range). We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions that deepen our understanding of the relationships between language, learning, and content across educational settings.
Conference themes
We invite contributions addressing (but not limited to) the following themes:
- Academic and disciplinary literacies
- Development of academic literacies across educational stages (primary, secondary, and tertiary education)
- Disciplinary literacies and subject-specific language practices
- Teaching and learning academic language skills (writing, speaking, reading, listening)
- Text genres and cognitive discourse functions in educational contexts
- Multilingual education and language development
- Bilingual and multilingual education (e.g., CLIL, immersion, Content-Based Instruction)
- Language learning and acquisition in multilingual contexts
- Multilingual competence and language repertoires
- Intercultural competence within multilingual education
- Heritage speakers in multilingual contexts
- Language across the curriculum
- Integration of language and content learning
- Academic language across subject areas
- Language-aware and language-responsive pedagogies
- Classroom discourse and practices
- Classroom interaction and discourse in multilingual settings
- Instructional practices supporting academic literacies
- Evidence-based interventions and classroom-based research

- The role of teachers in supporting academic literacies
- Teacher knowledge, beliefs, and agency

Each participant may submit a maximum of two proposals: either two co-authored submissions, or one single-authored proposal and one co-authored proposal.
All proposals must meet the following requirements:
They should follow this structure:
- Title
- Author(s) (full name, affiliation, email address)
- Abstract (topic, objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions)
- 3–5 keywords
- References
The abstract should not exceed 300 words (excluding references).

The language of the conference will be English.
